Literature Text

It was another extremely normal day,
Where nothing could get in my way.
Listening to the small radio so bored,
Hearing a voice I never heard before:
“I’m sorry for having to speak this way,
But the world will now end today.”
Some president said as he spoke,
With tears that now seemed to make him choke.

Outside the window a flock of birds soon did fly,
Covering up that crescent moon in the sky.
Continuing on, they now flew,
Where to no one knew.
Dropping my half-finished game that had no save,
A half-touched textbook on my desk it lay.
To stop myself who was trembling,
I placed on my headphones promptly.

An artist who I could care for less,
With a number and title I couldn’t guess.
It came to my ears a voice so light:
“You want to survive, isn’t that right?”

Walking across this shaking world,
The skyscrapers appear to tremble.
The voice I already know,
My own voice can’t leave me alone.
“In twenty seconds you need to cross over,
That hill for the worse or for the better.
Don’t doubt what I say, run instead
Twenty seconds ahead!”

An intersection so full of scared chatter,
Men, women, child it did not matter.
My ears so full of all the yelling,
And the sad crying.

The people riot, a girl starts to cry,
A priests prays, and I pass them all by.
One lone person goes a separate path,
Beyond the hill of this act.

The voice from my headphones said to me:
“Twelve minutes left,” it cried out warningly.
If everything was going to end today,
I guess there was no way.

The shrieks soon turn into loud screams,
Ten seconds and I’m soon crying.
Full of doubts, but I continue on,
There’s no end to the humanity’s song.
“Run, run one minute ‘til the end.”
But I couldn’t hear the voice by then.
The hill which I had sought to reach,
It was right before me.

Breath faint, I knew I had arrived.
But I saw a wall that looked like the sky.
Behind, scientists applauded loud and long,
“Magnificent” they said to me- this is wrong.

I look back to see the town,
An experimental facility I had found.
“No longer needed”,
Tossing a bomb a scientist so calmly destroyed where I had lived.
My whole life stuffed into something so small,
Yet I still can’t comprehend it all.
All I could do was dumbly stare,
At a life that was never there.
From my headphones the voice quietly in my head:
“I’m sorry” is all that it said…
Ahhh, I finally finished this. Posting Jinzou Enemy after this. Enjoy!
